Carolina Aero Marine Adventures Fishing Report                  Summer 2007
Inshore fishing is really heating up this month.  The bait has shown up in full
force and the fish are capitalizing on it in a big way.  There is no problem finding
all the shrimp, finger mullet, and menhaden that you want up the small creeks off
the main rivers.  Go out at low tide or at least when the water gets out of the
grass and throw your cast nets to collect all the bait you want.

There have been good catches of trout on both the rising and falling tides
around oyster beds.  They have been caught both under a cork and on the
bottom with just a hook and split shot.  Don't forget about the early morning and
late evening top water bite.  Trout are being caught on a variety of top water
lures such as Zara spooks and top dogs.  Just be patient when a fish blows up
on your lure since trout have a habit of missing a bait.  If you can leave it there
more often than not they will come back and take another shot at it.

The redfish and flounder bite has been very good on the falling tide by fishing
creek months as the water is running out of the creeks.  As the tide starts falling
all the bait that is up in the grass begins to funnel out with the water that is
running out of the small creeks into the larger creeks.  This provides a great
ambush point for redfish and flounder.  They can also be caught under a cork or
with a simple hook and a split shot.  We have been catching more flounder by
fishing on the bottom.

On the flood tides there have been redfish coming up on the flats and tailing in
the grass for about the last month and they will continue to do so throughout the
summer and into the fall.  They provide great sight fishing opportunities.

Schools of spanish mackerel are being caught on top busting bait in the harbor
and will continue to do so throughout the summer.  Just get out there early in
the morning and watch for the birds feeding on schools of bait fish.  Throw small
diamond jigs into the schools for some fun, fast paced action.  Just remember to
not run your boat right through the middle of the schools as this will make them
quickly disappear.
